MY Child Play Therapy Services

Integrative Play Therapy Services

Just as every giraffe’s patterns are unique, at M.C.P.T. we understand that every child is uniquely different. Our services are custom-designed to support the individual needs of the client and the family.

Integrative play therapy recognises the child as an individual who is part of many functioning systems, including family and school, and aims to support healing, maturation and development within these systems.

As a physiotherapist, I am able to combine physiotherapy practice and child play therapy if assessed as appropriate.

Learn to Play

Limitations in pretend play skills can significantly impact on the capacity for social play, the rate of emotional and cognitive maturity, and therefore on future academic success.

Learn to Play aligns with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) to support communication, social and emotional well-being.

This modality is appropriate for children (3-8 y.o.) experiencing:

Humanistic Play Therapy

This developmentally sensitive, therapeutic modality is founded on child-centred and non-directive play therapy theories.

Humanistic play therapy is a short or long-term intervention that aims to empower children by supporting them to be self-directive in a permissive, empathic, and non-judgmental environment.

It is within this safe environment in which children have the capacity to grow, develop methods for self-expression, and get to know themselves on a deep level.

” An opportunity that is offered to the child to experience growth under the most favourable conditions”

Virginia Axline

Play mediums can include art, active play, pretend play, construction and small world sand-tray play.

Filial Therapy

Filial Therapy is a form of play-based family therapy that is humanistic in nature.

Parents and caregivers are trained in essential therapeutic play skills, empowering them to becoming integral agents of change for their dependents.

Enhancing caregivers’ skills ultimately leads to improved understanding and acceptance of the child within the family unit.

The Filial Therapy sequence usually involves 10-12 sessions, including family play observations, play skill training sessions, and therapist-supervised therapeutic play sessions.

Tele-play Therapy:
Child Play Therapy in the digital space

As we continue to face the COVID pandemic, it is essential to modify services to best support clients and families.

Online tele-play sessions are invaluable during lockdowns, as well as to maintain therapeutic service consistency throughout illnesses or when far from home.

The digital play therapy space also provides a meaningful, therapeutic environment for older children and children who connect best to others through technology.
